In short
- Visit and diagnosis: $89 + tax electric, $129 + tax gas (one Ottawa firm); $80 or $95 + tax at another. Most firms credit it to the repair.
- Most stove repairs: $150–$400 on one firm's page, $100–$450 on another's, $220–$480 on a third list.
- Gas work runs higher: $280–$560 on the same firm's 2026 guide, and it needs a certificate-holder.
- A new electric range is quoted at $800–$2,500 installed, which sets the ceiling for a sensible repair.

Start with the visit fee
Every list on this page starts with a visit and diagnosis. B&M Canada Appliances prints $89 + tax for an electric oven or stove and $129 + tax for gas, and credits the fee toward the approved repair. Doctor Appliance prints $95 + HST for Ottawa and Gatineau on its home page and waives it with the repair; the same page shows an $80 + tax dispatch call. The fee pays for the technician to test the range and write the quote. If you decline the quote, the fee is what you owe.
Price by part
B&M puts typical totals, parts and labour together, at $150–$300 for a surface element or burner, $150–$280 for an infinite switch, $180–$350 for a gas igniter or spark module, $150–$300 for a sensor, $150–$320 for wiring or a terminal block, and $250–$450 for a control board. Its page says most stove repairs fall at $150–$400. Capital Appliance Repair says most electric stove repairs in Ottawa fall at $100–$450, with simple parts at the low end and control boards, induction and glass tops on premium brands higher. Your own quote comes after the test, and can land anywhere in or outside these bands.
Gas costs more
The 2026 guide from B&M puts gas stoves and ovens at $280–$560, against $220–$480 for electric. Igniters, valves and leak checks account for the gap, and the work needs a person holding a gas certificate under O. Reg. 212/01. The diagnosis for gas is $129 + tax on the same list. Rules and the safety line are on oven and stove repair.
What moves the number
- The failed part. A switch or element is cheap and a board costs far more.
- Access. A wall oven or a slide-in range takes longer to open.
- Brand. Premium makes use pricier sensors and boards.
- Time. After-hours and distance charges are listed by some firms.
Reading the quote
Look for a line for parts, a line for labour, the visit fee and whether it is credited, tax, the warranty and the date. Under Ontario’s consumer rules a written estimate can be exceeded by at most 10 per cent without your say-so (see the FAQ for a second fault).
Repair or replace
A new electric range runs $800–$2,500 or more installed, by Capital Appliance Repair’s figure. B&M’s rule of thumb: fix a range younger than about ten whose bill stays under half the cost of a comparable new model. A $200 element on a $1,500 range is an easy yes. A control board at $450 on a range near the end of its life invites a second look. Haul-away of the old stove belongs in the replacement price, since the City leaves stoves off curbside pickup. Details sit on repair or replace.

Whose price you will pay
The oven request goes to one independent repair firm in your part of Ottawa. That firm names its own call-out fee on the phone and writes its own quote at the range. Every figure above was copied from a firm’s public page on 29.10.2026; the one you pay is on the quote in your hand.
Questions to ask the company
- Is your diagnosis fee taken off the oven repair if I say yes?
- Is the quote for parts and labour together, and in writing before you start?
- Does the number include tax and any evening or distance charge?
- If the part has to be ordered, what is the fee for the second visit?
- What does the repair warranty cover, the part, the labour or both?
Have this ready for the call
- The range's model and serial, read off the plate behind the drawer or door
- Gas or electric, and range, wall oven or cooktop
- What fails: bake, broil, a burner, the display
- The error code on the display, photographed
- The age of the range, or the purchase receipt
Questions people ask
Why do three Ottawa firms print three different ranges?
Each firm sets its own mix of jobs, brands and parts. One lists most stove repairs at $150–$400, another at $100–$450, and a third guide gives $220–$480 for electric stoves and ovens. Treat the lists as a frame and ask the company for its own number after the diagnosis.
The technician found a second fault in my oven. Do I have to pay for it?
Only if you approve it. Ontario caps the final bill at 10 per cent over a written estimate unless you agree to the extra. Ask for the added work as a new line on the quote, with its price, before the technician carries on.
Who takes away the old range if I replace it?
Curbside pickup in Ottawa excludes stoves, so the City’s special-items page sends residents to retailers that take old units back or to a recycling business. When you buy a new range, ask the store to quote haul-away of the old one with delivery.
Does a built-in wall oven cost more to repair than a freestanding range?
Often a little, because the oven has to be pulled from its cabinet or reached from the front, which adds labour. The failed part sets most of the price on both. Name the type in the request, built-in or freestanding, so the company plans for the extra time and brings the right tools.
Is a glass or induction top priced like a coil range?
It sits higher. Capital Appliance Repair ranks premium-brand control boards, induction units and glass tops highest in its $100–$450 band for electric stoves, with an element or switch at the bottom. A cracked glass top is a separate part, priced on the cooktop page.
