The LG faults Ottawa firms list
Ottawa repair firms name the same LG faults. Refrigerators that stop cooling because of the linear compressor, an evaporator fan or the defrost system. French-door ice makers that freeze over. Washers that stop with LE or UE. Dryers that run without heat. Dishwashers showing OE or AE. The brand covers InstaView and Door-in-Door fridges, front-load and top-load washers, WashTower stacks, gas, electric and heat-pump dryers and QuadWash dishwashers. See the general pages on fridge repair, dryer repair and dishwasher repair.
A warm fridge: compressor, fan or defrost
A frosted evaporator or a stalled fan can look like a failed compressor, so a technician tests the fans and the defrost system first, one Ottawa firm says. Fridge not cooling lists the order of checks. Compressor and refrigerant work is sealed-system work. It starts with a diagnosis at $159 + tax at that firm, and the labour is quoted afterwards. Because the compressor is the costly part, read your warranty before approving it.
Read the LG warranty first
The fridge text sets three terms: 1 year parts and labour on the whole unit, a 7-year parts-only term on the sealed system and a 10-year parts-only term on the linear compressor. Labour past year one is yours. It warrants an authorized service centre’s repair for 30 days and excludes noises of normal operation, wiring or plumbing corrections and unauthorized repairs. The text covers in-home repair within 150 km of an authorized service centre. Washers differ: LG’s WM1333HW page adds the DirectDrive motor and liner-and-tub terms in the summary above to the usual 1 year parts and labour. Terms vary by model, so match them to your plate and your receipt. The warranties and recalls page covers what to check.
Washers, dryers and dishwashers
On LG washers, codes narrow the search: LE for the motor, UE for balance and suspension, OE for drain and dE for the door lock. A repeating UE with normal loads sends the technician to the shock absorbers. Dryers with no heat usually mean the element, thermistor or thermal fuse on electric models, and the igniter or gas valve coils on gas ones. The gas valve side of an LG gas dryer is TSSA certificate work in Ontario; a gas smell means leaving first and calling Enbridge Gas from the street. OE on a dishwasher is a drain fault, AE a leak sensor in the base.
What drives the price
One Ottawa firm’s typical totals: washer $210–$460, fridge defrost, fan, thermostat or seal $220–$480, gas dryer $280–$520, parts and labour, plus the visit fee. Genuine LG parts run 15% to 35% above aftermarket on its figures. Your own price arrives with the company’s written quote after the test. See appliance repair cost and repair or replace.
Who picks up an LG request
One independent Ottawa repair company with LG work in its line, matched to your area. It is separate from LG’s authorized service network, which matters when the compressor is still inside its term: ask the company on the call whether it handles LG warranty claims. The Desk only forwards the request.
Questions to ask the company
- Do you work on LG, and on this model line (InstaView, Door-in-Door, WashTower)?
- Can the fault be tested before a compressor is blamed?
- If it is the compressor, will you write the fault and date on the report for my warranty claim?
- Is the part original LG, and on the truck or ordered?
- Is your LG call-out fee knocked off once I approve the repair?
Have this ready for the call
- Model number: on a fridge, on the upper side wall of the fresh-food section; on a washer or dryer, inside the door opening or on the back.
- The code, such as LE, UE, OE, dE or d80, photographed before it clears.
- Purchase date and receipt, for the warranty periods.
- Whether the dryer is gas, electric or heat-pump.
- How long the fridge has been warm, and whether food is already at risk.
Questions people ask
Is the LG linear compressor still under warranty?
LG Canada’s refrigerator text gives the linear compressor a 10-year parts-only term from the original retail purchase; labour is the owner’s cost. Your model and purchase date decide it. Keep the receipt and ask the company to record the fault in writing.
What do LE, UE and OE mean on an LG washer?
One Ottawa firm reads LE as a locked motor, often a hall sensor or stator on direct-drive washers, UE as an unbalanced load that points to the suspension if it repeats, and OE as a drain fault. dE is a door or lid lock fault. A technician confirms which on the visit.
Why is ice building up around my LG French-door ice maker?
One Ottawa firm calls it a known issue on several French-door models. Warm moist air leaks into the ice compartment and freezes on the maker and bin, through a worn gasket, a door that no longer seals or a faulty compartment fan. The fix depends on the model.
What does d80 or d90 on an LG dryer mean?
On LG dryers with Flow Sense, one Ottawa firm says d80, d90 or d95 shows a restricted exhaust. That slows drying and needs clearing. Say which code you see and how long loads take to dry.
Does LG's own warranty cover a repair by any company?
The LG Canada refrigerator text covers the product when LG repairs or replaces it, with proof of purchase, and in-home repair within 150 km of an authorized service centre. A repair by another company is paid by you. Ask the company whether it does warranty work.
